New Taleban leader says he receives orders from Bin-Ladin – Al-Jazeera TV

(BBC) Text of report by Qatari Al-Jazeera satellite TV on 5 June

In his first television interview, the new Taleban military commander, Haji Mansur Dadollah, has said that the leader of the Al–Qa’idah organization, Usamah Bin-Ladin, had sent to him a condolences message following the martyrdom of his brother Dadollah, the former military leader of the movement.

In an interview with the Al-Jazeera TV correspondent, which will be broadcast later within the “Today’s Encounter – Liqa al-Yawm” programme, Mansur said that Bin-Ladin was alive and was issuing his orders and instructions to the [Al-Qa’idah and Taleban] leaders.

[Dadollah – recording in Pashto fading into Arabic translation] Shaykh Usamah Bin-Ladin is alive and active and he does not neglect his duties. The most recent evidence that Usamah Bin-Ladin is alive and sound is the fact that he sent me a condolences message after the martyrdom of my brother. In the message, he advised me to follow the path of my brother Mullah Dadollah. Usamah Bin-Ladin also urged Muslims to follow the steps of Mullah Dadollah because he was a mujahid and that God granted him his wish. God willing, his blood will be a fire for the enemies and we will score great victories. Bin-Ladin’s statement is a proof that he is alive.

[TV correspondent] In your view, what are the reasons preventing Bin-Ladin from appearing?

[Dadollah] These are mere military tactics. Shaykh Usamah Bin-Ladin chose not to appear because if he made himself available to the media and met people he might face dangers. The presence of Shaykh Bin-Ladin among Muslims is an honour for us all. We do not want Shaykh Usamah Bin-Ladin to disappear and we do not want to lose him. I also urge him not to receive any person, to remain in hiding and to continue issuing his orders and instructions to the leaders so that Al-Qa’idah will remain active in Afghanistan and will continue its activities all around the world.
