Eleven Saudis Arrested Over Terror Activities

(Gulf News) Riyadh: Security forces have arrested 11 suspected Saudi militants over the last 24 hours, said the Interior Ministry in a statement. It added that the group used to instigate and fund militant operations. A source close to the anti-terrorism dossier in Saudi Arabia told Gulf News the arrests came upon information received by the security forces following the arrest of the militants’ media chief last week. Tip-off “The electronic devices and documents were the ones that led the security forces to nab the 11 suspects yesterday,” the source added. The Interior Ministry statement pointed out that one of the arrested militants was involved in an attack on a major oil installation in Abqaiq industrial city. It added that according to the law all the properties of arrested suspects were confiscated pending finalisation of legal procedures. Saudi Arabia announced its determination to uproot terrorists who attempt to undermine the kingdom’s security and stability. In April, the security forces said it foiled an Al Qaida-linked plot to attack oil facilities in Abqaiq in the eastern province. Two security men were killed and a number of others were injured during the operation. At that time, Al Qaida in the Arabian peninsula in a statement posted on the internet voiced responsibility for the aborted attack. It noted that its attack comes within the framework of “stopping crusaders from stealing the Muslims’ wealth”. In May, five suspects involved in the attack were also arrested.
