Implant Sciences Ships Six Benchtop Explosives Detector Systems for Use in Beijing 2008 Olympic Games

(TMC Net) WAKEFIELD, Mass. –(Business Wire)– Implant Sciences Corporation (AMEX: IMX) today announced the shipment of six (6) units of the Company’s Quantum Sniffer BTS Benchtop Explosives Detection System (“QS-BTS”) to Beijing Ritchie’s Time Co., Ltd, the Company’s distributor in China, for delivery to the Beijing police. The QS-BTS, along with previously shipped Quantum Sniffer H100 (“QS-H100”) and H150 (“QS-H150”) Portable Explosives Detectors, is expected to be used in connection with security and anti-terrorism efforts during the 2008 Olympic Games to be held in Beijing.

In a recent online publication of Homeland Security Daily Wire, one high ranking official of the Ministry of Public Security in China indicated that terrorism posed the biggest threat to the holding of a successful Beijing Olympic Games. A second high ranking official of the Ministry also noted that although the Olympic Games are a happy gathering for people from all countries, it is also a big target for terrorism.

The QS-BTS, using the Company’s patented Vortex collector technology for sample collection and Quantum Sniffer technology for explosives detection, provides the advanced analytical capabilities expected of a desktop detection device while providing the flexibility of a portable, handheld detection device – all in one easy to use unit. The Vortex collector technology, which offers the ability to collect samples of vapors and particulate matter in both non-contact and contact modes, is combined with the Quantum Sniffer detection technology making possible the detection of nanogram (i.e., parts per trillion) amounts of a variety of explosive substances commonly used by terrorists.

Phillip C. Thomas, Implant Sciences President and CEO, commented, “We are pleased to play a role in providing advanced technology tools to help improve security and combat terrorist threats that may be faced in connection with the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The Company has established a presence within China over the past two years and has developed a significant installed base of its QS-H100 and QS-H150 Portable Explosives Detection Systems. This new shipment of our QS-BTS Benchtop Explosives Detector Systems represents our first installation of the Benchtop version of our technology in China. The QS-BTS represents state-of-the-art technology for the detection of vapors and minute particles of explosives materials in a security checkpoint environment. We look forward to increased success in the worldwide marketing and sales of this new product which is complimentary to our QS-H150 Portable Explosives Detector.”
