Basque terror suspect returns for an admissibility hearing Wednesday

(The Canadian Press) MONTREAL – A suspected Basque terrorist is facing an immigration hearing in Montreal Wednesday to determine whether he should be allowed to remain in Canada.

Ivan Apaolaza Sancho, 36, is detained in Montreal and has failed in several attempts to secure his release since his arrest June 20. Sancho was one of two alleged Basque terrorists arrested within weeks of each other in Canada during the summer.

Spanish officials accuse Sancho of being a member of the terrorist group ETA and participating in terrorist activities, including several car bombings in 1999 and 2000.

One of the bombs killed a Spanish army officer.
